Man who killed Colonie student in crash faces sentencing today

ALBANY, N.Y. (WRGB)— Thomas McGrath, 73, is set to appear in Albany County Court today for sentencing after accepting a plea deal in the death of Colonie Central High School senior Michael Kleinke. McGrath pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter and driving while impaired, agreeing to a sentence of 4 to 12 years. Originally, he faced charges that could have resulted in a maximum sentence of 15 years.

McGrath has remained free under the condition that he attends all court proceedings, including today’s sentencing, and cooperates with probation.
