Laws targeting protesters, racists and drug exposers take effect in Tennessee July 1st

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Here’s a closer look at all of the new laws that will take effect in Tennessee on Tuesday, July 1st.

EXPOSING CHILDREN TO DRUGS

Anyone who exposes a child to fentanyl will commit a Class E felony, starting July 1st. If the child is under 8, the crime is elevated to a Class B felony.

Also, anyone convicted of selling or distributing products like THC gummies to people under the age of 21 will be required to spend 2 days in a county jail or workhouse, and pay a fine of at least $500.

NEW TEEN BULLY PENALTY

If a person under the age of 18 is adjudicated delinquent for harassment, bullying or cyberbullying would lose their driving privileges for a year.

This law expands a previous law that formally defines bullying, cyberbullying and harassment in a state law.

VOYEURISM VICTIMS ACT

There are already unlawful photography laws on the books. A new provision expands the law to any unauthorized photograph that a defendant knows would include the “unclothed intimate area” of a victim or the victim engaged in sexual activity…
