Starting this month, Sacramento drivers could receive a $25 fine for parking too close to crosswalks, as part of a new City enforcement effort designed to protect pedestrians and improve visibility at intersections.
The City of Sacramento will begin issuing citations July 1 for vehicles parked within 20 feet of the approach side of any marked or unmarked crosswalk, or 15 feet from a crosswalk with a curb extension. Whether or not the curb is painted red or any signage is present, drivers parked in these areas could be cited for violating the law.
This enforcement aligns with a state law that took effect on January 1, commonly known as the daylighting law, which was established by Assembly Bill 413 and is codified under California Vehicle Code 22500(n).
