New Orleans police announced an arrest in a homicide case after a man allegedly told officials he shot his girlfriend and buried her in the backyard on Saturday.
The NOPD said 24-year-old Benjamin J. Camp was arrested in connection with the homicide. He is charged with second-degree murder and obstruction of justice, according to jail records.

There have been 52 reported murders in the city of New Orleans this year so far, according to crime statistics through Sunday. The number represents a decrease from 67 murders reported in the city by this time last year, 121 reported in 2023 and 149 reported in 2022.
