Metairie Man, Roosevelt Cockheran, Sentenced to 21+ Years for Drug and Firearm Convictions

A Metairie man, identified as Roosevelt Cockheran, age 41, has been sentenced to over two decades in prison following convictions for various drug and firearm offenses. As reported by the United States Attorney’s Office, Cockheran’s sentencing last Thursday comes after his guilty plea to charges including conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine, unlawful use of a communications facility, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to the official U.S. Attorney’s Office press release, the United States District Judge Susie Morgan handed down the concurrent sentences, which total to 262 months for the drug conspiracy charge, 48 months, for the communications facility charge, the statutory maximum, and 180 months for the firearm charge. Following his incarceration, Cockheran will also be subject to an 8-year term of supervised release. The case forms a part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a nationwide initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence.

At the heart of the case was the discovery of cocaine, crack cocaine, and drug paraphernalia in Cockheran’s pick-up truck by local deputies.
