Clock is ticking on state’s extradition of accused Eugene Weekly newspaper embezzler

EUGENE, Ore. — As of today, the State of Oregon has nine days left to extradite accused Eugene Weekly embezzler Elisha Young from Ohio back to Oregon or else she could be released for a second time.

Young is accused of embezzling $100,000 from the Eugene Weekly newspaper, forcing the paper to temporarily shut down and lay its staff off in December 2023. A warrant was issued for Young’s arrest earlier this year, and she was captured in Ohio in May but was released because the State of Oregon declined to extradite her.

But Governor Tina Kotek has since changed her mind and has said the state will pay for Young to be brought back to Lane County to face her numerous theft charges. Young was captured a second time on June 13 and has been awaiting her extradition…
