The woman accused of posing as a Boston High School student for years appeared in court Tuesday, where she backed out of a proposed plea deal that would have resolved the case.
Thirty-four-year-old Shelby Hewitt was in court for a brief hearing at which Judge Debra Squires-Lee said she was prepared to move on a plea deal to bring an end to the case. The judge said the two sides had been discussing an agreement that called for probation, mental health treatment and restitution.
But Hewitt’s attorney, Timothy Flaherty, told the judge that his client would only agree to the deal if the case was continued without a finding, meaning the charges would be dropped if she does not reoffend.
