As Charlotteans gear up for their Independence Day festivities this year, there’s one less thing to worry about: trash. The City of Charlotte has announced that there will be no delays to the regular solid waste collection schedule on Friday, ensuring that residents can dispose of post-celebration waste without a hitch. According to a press release, citizens should have their garbage carts on the curb by 6 a.m. sharp on the day of collection.
As part of the city’s commitment to safety and sustainability, the Solid Waste Services department reminds everyone to heed certain precautions when throwing out holiday waste. It’s especially critical with potentially hazardous materials like fireworks and charcoal, which, if not disposed of properly, could pose risks. “If placed in the regular garbage, hazardous waste can react and start fires in the back of collection trucks, putting residents and workers at risk,” the city cautioned in their press release.
For those who take pride in their grilling, caution is the watchword. Make sure that charcoal is fully cooled before it goes into the garbage cart to prevent any unwanted fires. And as always, read the disposal instructions on product labels because no one wants the aftermath of their Fourth of July to include an unexpected bang in the trash truck.
