Person who died in Irmo police custody identified

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – The Richland County Coroner’s Office has positively identified the person who died in custody after a chase and altercation with Irmo Police.

Richland County Coroner Nadia Rutherford has identified the victim as Byron Jackson, 45, of North Augusta, South Carolina.

On Sunday morning, Irmo Police officers responded to a report of a possible fight occurring inside a vehicle in the New Friarsgate area. Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with the vehicle involved. The vehicle fled the scene, and a brief pursuit ensued, ending next to the Dollar General located in the 7800 Block of Broad River Road…
