Crews come together to save ducks from Grandville retention pond

GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) — Local volunteers and the Grandville Fire Department responded to a late-night weekend emergency call from the Michigan Duck Rescue and Sanctuary Saturday to save the lives of six newborn ducklings who were stranded in a retention pond.

“There was no way out for these guys,” Matthew Lyson, founder of the sanctuary told News 8.

Reports of the stranded ducklings and distressed mother starting flowing to the South Lyon-based nonprofit Saturday evening. Organizers made the post asking if anyone was in the area around 9 p.m.

“It’s just great to know that on a Saturday night at 9 you can ask for help,” Lyson said. “People can make a difference.”…
