Mobile man who changed mind after guilty plea gets second chance in murder case

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A judge on Tuesday allowed a man who pleaded guilty to manslaughter to withdraw his plea and go to trial on the original charges.

Harry Ladarren Davis, 31, of Mobile, pleaded guilty on June 3 to manslaughter and first-degree assault as part of a deal with prosecutors to avoid a murder trial. But his attorney, John White, argued last week that his client should be allowed to take that plea back because of a misunderstanding about the sentence he faced.

Mobile County Circuit Judge Jay York did not immediately rule, but on Tuesday, he sided with Davis. The judge set an Aug. 11 trial date, during which he will face trial not only for murder and attempted murder, but also on six counts related to firing his gun…
