Horry County’s top prosecutor in room for Stanko execution, calls it a ‘humane’ process

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Horry County’s chief prosecutor was among a handful of people in attendance for the June 13 execution of double murderer Stephen Stanko, he revealed this week.

“When it started, it was off and running and over with in just a few minutes,” 15th Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson said in his weekly constituent update. “There was no suffering or any of that going on. It was as humane as going to sleep.”

Stanko was executed by lethal injection at Broad River Correctional Facility Institution in Columbia. The process began at 6:06 p.m. and he was pronounced dead at 6:34 p.m…
