TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The City of Tampa said it can make improvements to storm water systems but said it cannot prevent flooding from happening. City leaders are making changes to their storm response protocols.
So far this year, the City of Tampa said it has removed hundreds of tons of debris from piles, ditches, and ponds. City officials said crews are working six days a week on maintenance, and they are changing protocols for storm response, like bringing in generators to help pump out water before the storm.

But will that be enough? Mayor Jane Castor said the biggest threat is extreme rain events.
“The generators are in different locations around the city but they’re not all over the city,” Castor said. “There’s so much that these systems can do, but if we get certain amounts of rain there will be flooding.”…
