9-year-old girl dies in hot car in Galena Park, sheriff says

HOUSTON (KIAH) — A 9-year-old girl died after being left in a hot car in the Galena Park area of east Houston, authorities said.

Detectives from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to an industrial complex at the 1200 block of Mayo Shell Road on Tuesday afternoon. The 9-year-old girl was found in an unattended vehicle. The girl was taken to LBJ Hospital but was later pronounced dead.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a press conference that the girl may have been in the car since 2 p.m. Tuesday.

He also believes the girl’s mother works at the industrial complex and left the girl some water and rolled the windows partially down. She later checked on her daughter and found her unresponsive…
