With nearly 8,000 people experiencing homelessness in Clark County, officials are implementing several measures to address the growing issue. These include a multi-million dollar revitalization project, building more transitional housing complexes, and clearing encampments from local tunnels. However, some residents feel these efforts are insufficient.
Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom acknowledged the absence of a specific plan to tackle homelessness. “There is. I mean, we have the resources but we do not have a specific plan,” said Segerblom, who represents District E. He admitted the county’s strategy is reactive rather than proactive. “We have lots of resources. But we are not proactive, we really respond. So unless somebody calls and tells us what is going on. A lot of times we have so much going on in the county that we do not have the ability to be there,” he said.
