New plan to tackle crime, cleanliness in Downtown Honolulu

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A new plan could bring more safety, cleanliness and coordination to Downtown Honolulu.

A city councilmember is trying to create a Business Improvement District, similar to the one that was implemented in Waikiki.

Downtown Honolulu has seen its share of challenges in recent years, from safety concerns to a rise in homelessness.

“Under the Business Improvement District, the residents are not going to be charged, it’s just nonresidential properties, but they’re going to see the benefits in more cleanliness, more security and hopefully we can get all this together for them to start next year,” District 6 councilmember Tyler Dos Santos-Tam said…
