Family of recent UAlbany graduate raising money after he was fatally shot in Brooklyn

ALBANY — It was the evening of June 26 when Sabrina Dominique learned her younger brother, a University at Albany graduate who received his degree last month, was fatally shot in Brooklyn.

A close relative had called her, telling Dominique that he saw ambulances near his home around the Canarsie neighborhood and discovered 21-year-old Mitch Innocent, who had recently returned home from Albany, was one of the victims. She said she remembers praying during the entire ride to the hospital where her brother was transported to, but he had been pronounced dead when she got there.

Now, his family is raising money through GoFundMe to cover costs for funeral services, church services and a mausoleum space “to send him off properly and the way that he wanted to,” said Dominique, Innocent’s older sister…
