Federal Express will close a location less than two miles from Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, but the company says many of the 164 employees there will be offered other jobs with the company.
The Memphis, Tennessee-based logistics company says the layoffs are related to “Network 2.0, FedEx’s multi-year network transformation,” announced in 2022 to improve efficiency in the delivery of packages. By fiscal year 2027, FedEx expects to operate 100 fewer stations and eliminate more than 10% of pickup and delivery routes under its Network 2.0 plan. Increased efficiency is expected to provide $2 billion a year in savings, according to the company. FedEx has more than 5,000 facilities.
