City leaders across Horry County are creating their own rules after South Carolina changed its golf cart laws on May 22 and gave municipalities and counties home rule.
North Myrtle Beach is the first city in the area to create its own golf cart law, approving an ordinance June 24. It keeps the hours of operation between “sunrise and sunset,” and included the seat belt requirement for riders under 12 years old.
According to the new state law, municipalities and counties can create their own ordinances that determines the hours, methods and locations of golf cart operations, but are still limited to secondary highways where the speed limit is 35 miles per hour or less and crossing highways that are more than 35 miles per hour…
