Darlington County deputy’s ambush killing latest in rash of violent gun crimes

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Since late April, nearly 10 major crimes involving guns have taken lives and injured dozens across the Grand Strand and Pee Dee, raising questions about adequate police coverage, public safety and even economic loss.

Devin Mason and another deputy were ambushed inside an Old Timers Court home near Lamar, leaving the other officer injured and alleged gunman Cameron Ray Dennett dead.
