‘His blood level was 182’: A mother’s fight for lead poisoning awareness after son’s exposure

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Lead poisoning is silent, but the damage can last a lifetime. One Rochester mother knows that all too well. Her 4-year-old son’s blood lead level once tested nearly six times the threshold for emergency treatment.

Jamie Peterson moved to Rochester in 2021. Not long after, her son Ryder — 18 months old at the time — started showing signs something was wrong.
