First Alert Forecast: locally heavy storms, watching the tropics

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Chances for locally heavy storms will start at a healthy 60% Wednesday and linger around 50% Thursday before settling to a friendlier 10 to 20% for Friday the Fourth; keep an eye on your WECT Weather App’s interactive radar and hour by hour forecast to help your holiday travel and / or activities go smoothly. High temperatures will progress from the 80s Wednesday to near 90 Thursday to into the 90s for Independence Day.

On the saltwater side… The risk of rip currents will be elevated through Thursday but will likely tend lower into the Fourth; always pay attention to the lifeguards! Farther offshore, the National Hurricane Center affixes medium odds for tropical storm development over or just east of Florida within the next seven days; while there are yet no definable threats to the Carolinas, this is a feature your First Alert Weather Team will watch closely over the weekend.
