As of July 1, Plano residents will see higher fees across a variety of parks and recreation services following a vote by city council at its June 23 meeting.
The updated fees include increases for everything from pool rentals and tennis court use to daily recreation center admission. Many of these fees hadn’t been updated in years — some dating back to 2019, 2012 or even 2008.
What’s Going Up
The new rates apply to a wide range of services. Fees will rise for:
- After-hours pool rentals
- Pool party packages
- Facility room rentals
- Nature & Retreat Center rentals
- High Point Tennis Center memberships and court rentals
- Courtyard Theater and Cox Playhouse rentals
- Recreation center memberships, daily passes and programming
Why the Change?
The increase follows Plano City Council’s earlier adoption of a new cost recovery policy on February 24, 2025. The policy was designed to ensure that the city is recouping an appropriate portion of the costs tied to its parks, facilities, and recreational services. It provides a framework for how departments evaluate pricing and service delivery in a more consistent, fiscally responsible way.
According to the city, the fee adjustments are necessary to meet cost recovery targets while still keeping services accessible to residents. The changes also bring Plano’s recreation pricing in line with its internal budgeting guidelines and cost analysis procedures.
Financial Impact
The estimated boost in revenue from the new fee structure is substantial. City projections suggest an increase of $699,537 to the general fund and $314,445 to the recreation revolving fund for the 2024–25 fiscal year. Future revenue will ultimately depend on public participation and overall demand.
Plano officials emphasized that while the fees are going up, they remain committed to offering high-quality services and programs that serve the community at large…
