History Museum on the Square showcases new Route 66 exhibit

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The History Museum on the Square is opening its new Roadside Gems exhibit in its Voices of History gallery.

Roadside Gems is the fourth exhibit in a year-long series celebrating the history of Route 66 in Springfield. In years past, the museum has highlighted places to eat, stay and service stops, but this year is all about the “why” of road trips along Route 66, including reasons travelers stopped in Springfield throughout history.

The exhibit is included with a regular ticket to the museum and highlights some places you can still visit today, like the Gillioz Theater and Marvel Cave.
