Albany Man Indicted on Rape and Burglary Charges

An Albany man, Lamont Evans, 29, has been indicted on charges of first-degree rape and burglary following a June 15 incident on Lancaster Street. According to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office, Evans allegedly broke into an apartment and demanded a sex act from a woman he did not know. The woman was taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment. Evans was arrested shortly after the incident and is currently held without bail at the Albany County Correctional Facility.

Evans pleaded not guilty to the charges in Albany County Court on Monday (June 30). He faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted. During the arraignment, prosecutors highlighted Evans’ extensive criminal history, which includes a felony conviction, six misdemeanor convictions, and multiple failures to appear in court.
