Washington D.C.’s Navy Yard neighborhood was the scene of an unusual drug bust last Friday when Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers encountered a mobile trailer with neon signs brazenly advertising ‘THC Sold Here’ and ‘Open’. During a routine patrol last Friday, at around 8:50 p.m., officers discovered the trailer parked illegally in the Unit block of M Street, Southeast. According to the MPD’s news release, the trailer’s owner lacked a permit for selling marijuana.
On further investigation, police seized the trailer and discovered a stash of narcotics including marijuana, THC edibles, cocaine, hashish, and psilocybin mushrooms. A total of 340 grams of narcotics were recovered during the operation. Abel Adem Delta, a 42-year-old resident of Alexandria, VA, was arrested in connection with the incident and is now facing multiple drug-related charges including Felony Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Cocaine). The MPD has charged him with additional counts for Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, both for Hashish and Psilocybin Mushrooms.
Delta’s arrest comes at a time when marijuana legalization debates continue to stir controversy across the nation. Despite legalization efforts in various states, the District of Columbia maintains strict regulations around the sale and distribution of cannabis. Unauthorized vendors and illegal dispensaries still operate, often under the guise of gifting or other legal loopholes, and the local enforcement agencies are on constant alert to shutter these operations…
