Quadruple Murder Suspect Kohberger Pleads Guilty
In a dramatic courtroom appearance, Brian Kohberger pleaded guilty to the murders of four University of Idaho students. Kohberger’s demeanor shifted noticeably throughout the proceedings, according to body language expert Judi James.
Initially, he sat silently, exhibiting an almost “childlike gaze.” However, when asked to take the oath, he dramatically raised his hand high above his head, seemingly attempting to command attention.
Kohberger’s guilty plea to four counts of first-degree murder secures him a life sentence without the possibility of parole. He also waived his right to appeal. The victims were University of Idaho students Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin.
James observed Kohberger’s “large and unconcealed” eyes, noting they registered no visible remorse or shame. She also highlighted his stillness, even during the judge’s lengthy introduction, describing his posture as symmetrical and calm.
This court appearance marked the first time Kohberger had spoken since his initial appearance in early 2023. His prior silence had prompted Judge Steven Hippler to enter pleas on his behalf.
However, when confirming his guilt, Kohberger responded confidently with a simple “yes” to each of the judge’s questions. While appearing compliant and obedient, glancing between the computer screen and his defense counsel, he maintained the same “childlike gaze” observed earlier.
