BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — A convicted murderer who shot and killed his brother-in-law at a New Year’s Eve party in 2004 and injured others has been denied parole, the Kern County District Attorney announced. The Board of Parole Hearings (BPH) found on June 27, 2025, that Jose Martinez-Millan continues to pose a current and unreasonable risk to public safety.
On December 31, 2004, Martinez-Millan attended a party with families and children to celebrate the New Year. After an argument with his wife, he left the party and returned with a shotgun. He shot through a bedroom door, injuring one brother-in-law, and killed his friend, Francisco Martinez, by shooting him in the head, said prosecutors.
