KALAMAZOO, MI — Westnedge Park was known as Pioneer Cemetery to Kalamazoo’s early settlers.
Construction workers found 200-year-old remains of a Kalamazoo settler within the park bounds, near Westnedge Avenue and Park Place, in November 2024.
The skeleton was reburied at the oldest part of Mountain Home Cemetery during a Monday, June 30 ceremony, put on by the Lucinda Hinsdale Stone Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
Western Michigan University’s forensic anthropology department determined the bones belonged to a white male in his late 20s or early 30s…
