Man charged in Lansing homicide told police victim charged him before he fired shots

LANSING — The man accused of killing Timothy McGovern over the weekend in an apartment at a south-side complex told police he shot McGovern in the chest after the man charged at him, court records indicate.

Elijah Larkins, 22, of Delta Township left the apartment after shooting McGovern, 26, and was arrested at his parents’ home later that morning, a detective said in a court document.

Larkins denied he intended to kill McGovern but told police he was aiming at McGovern’s chest and did not try to help him or call 911 before leaving the residence, the document said…
