Smithfield man found with trove of homemade explosives intends to plead guilty

NORFOLK Va. (WAVY) – The Smithfield man found with over 150 pipe bombs intends to plead guilty, according to an order filed in federal court earlier this week.

Trial date for man accused of weapons violations moved

Brad Spafford faces one count of possession of an unregistered explosive device, along with a weapons violation related to having an AR-style rifle with a shortened barrel.

FBI agents raided his house back in December and made what they called the largest homemade explosives seizure in its history. He was taken into custody Dec. 17.
