Fall River Diocese finds allegations against priest ‘credible’

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — The Roman Catholic Diocese of Fall River revealed on Tuesday that Father Jay Mello, a priest accused of “sexual misconduct,” won’t be returning to St. Michael and St. Joseph parishes.

According to the Diocese, none of the allegations involved minors.

The Diocese said a board composed of nonordained members of the church “evaluated the evidence and made recommendations to Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha.” The Bishop then reviewed the evidence and recommendations himself…
