With plans to eliminate roughly 100 jobs, New Hanover County will begin phasing out active employees from various departments in the coming months.
Under New Hanover’s fiscal year 2025-2026 budget, the county plans to eliminate positions for roughly 70 active employees and 30 vacancies. The reduction in the workforce stems from steep cost-cutting outlined in the county’s adopted budget, which took effect on July 1.
Some county personnel will be “asked to leave the organization to help achieve budget goals and meet new policy direction,” according to a message shared with county staff. Off-boarding will take place on Aug. 18, Sept. 15 and Oct. 21.
