ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The goats are back in the bosque to help control invasive plant populations and help mitigate the spread of wildfires. The city of Albuquerque and Galloping Goats released dozens of goats and sheep into the bosque on Tuesday to eat tumbleweeds and kochia plants, which are invasive species that burn bright and can quickly fuel a wildfire.

Not only do the goats eat the invasive species, but their droppings also act as a natural fertilizer to help the next generation of plants grow in the bosque. The goats will be back on Wednesday to finish the job.
