Personal fireworks ignite SE Portland fire; officials seek suspects

Fireworks ignited a row of shrubs in Southeast Portland on Tuesday and authorities are now looking for the youths suspected of violating the city’s ban on personal fireworks.

Portland Fire & Rescue got the call around 1 p.m. that there had been a “large audible boom” in the Hazelwood neighborhood, followed by reports that a row of arborvitae was on fire, the agency said in a statement Tuesday.

Crews found the fire was beginning to extend to a house and to a playground. Firefighters put the fire out before it could do serious damage to the home, but crews did have to make a hole the roof and there was some damage to the playground, the agency said…
