Portland selects new fire chief, a high-ranking fire official from Texas

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland has found its new fire chief, a high-ranking fire official from Dallas, Texas.

Lauren Johnson is the longtime assistant chief at the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department, where she has worked for the past 26 years. Now she will be heading Portland Fire and Rescue as the new chief, the City of Portland announced.

Judge accepts Kohberger plea deal

Johnson is taking over the role from Interim Chief AJ Jackson, who will remain in her position over the next two months to help with Johnson’s transition. Johnson’s begins on August 18.

“It is truly an honor to be named the next Chief of Portland Fire & Rescue,” Johnson said in a statement. “I’m eager to collaborate with the dedicated team of City staff and elected officials who are passionate about shaping the future of public safety in Portland.”…
