LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. (KOIN) – After a 12-year legal battle over public access to Oswego Lake, the city is closing access for all of Fourth of July weekend.
In March, a judge ruled the City of Lake Oswego could not restrict access to the lake. But the city announced the lake will be closed from the evening of July 3 to the morning of July 7. In a statement, a city spokesperson said, “Decisions to temporarily close public spaces are made to facilitate a safe and seamless experience for all and to ensure first responders can effectively respond to emergencies.”

Mark Kramer, one of the plaintiffs in the original case, is demanding change.
“I’ve sent a letter to the city explaining our position that this is overbroad,” he said, “It’s overkill. It discriminates against the public while it preserves the rights of the privileged few who can use the lake.”…
