Planning Your Fourth of July? Here’s What’s Open and Closed

The Fourth of July is a time for celebration, but before you head out for fireworks and festivities, it’s good to know what services and stores are available. While government offices and banks will be closed, many retailers and restaurants will be open, often with adjusted hours.

Grocery Runs and Errands:

Need to grab some last-minute picnic supplies? Most major grocery chains will be open on July 4th, although some may have reduced hours.

Expect regular hours at Kroger (including Ralphs, King Soopers, and Fred Meyer), Walmart, and Target (though hours may vary by location). Publix will be open until 9 p.m., while Trader Joe’s and Sam’s Club plan to close earlier, typically around 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.

If you need a pharmacy, CVS, Walgreens, and Rite Aid will generally be open, but check local listings for specific hours. Don’t forget, Whole Foods will also be open but with varying holiday hours.

Retail Therapy:

If shopping is on your Independence Day agenda, several national retailers will be open. Home Depot, Lowe’s, Best Buy, Macy’s, and Sephora are among the stores welcoming shoppers.

Bargain hunters can head to TJ Maxx, Marshalls, or HomeGoods, which will be open until 8 p.m. Dollar stores (Dollar General, Family Dollar, Dollar Tree) will also be operating, along with Old Navy, Michaels, Bass Pro Shops, and Cabela’s.

Aldi and IKEA will be open but with limited hours, so check beforehand.

Dining Out:

No need to worry about cooking! Most restaurants and fast-food chains will be open for business on the Fourth.

Whether you’re craving burgers (McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s), tacos (Chipotle, Taco Bell), or pizza (Pizza Hut, Domino’s, Little Caesars), you’ll have plenty of options. As always, Denny’s, IHOP, and Waffle House will be open 24/7.

Coffee lovers can get their fix at Starbucks and Dunkin’, with most locations open, potentially with limited hours. Many casual dining restaurants, such as Buffalo Wild Wings, Applebee’s, TGI Fridays, Olive Garden, and Chili’s, will also be open, but hours may vary.

Closures to Note:

Several key services will be closed for the holiday. Costco will be closed at all locations.

Mail delivery will be suspended for the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), and UPS and FedEx will not operate regular pickup or delivery services.

All major banks, including Wells Fargo, Chase, and Bank of America, will be closed, as will financial markets (NYSE, Nasdaq, and bond markets). Government offices, including courts, DMVs, and local municipalities, will also be closed.
