KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A Knoxville man was arrested and charged after he was accused of attempting to break into an apartment Wednesday afternoon.
The Knoxville Police Department said officers responded to an apartment complex on Mansion Avenue around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday after they received a call reporting that an armed man was trying to break into a woman’s apartment. When officers arrived at the scene, a witness said the suspect, later identified as Elijah K’Von Cotner, 25, had run away.

Officers searched for Cotner and found him in the parking lot of another apartment complex. KPD said Cotner attempted to run from officers but was caught and taken into custody.
When officers searched Cotner’s backpack, they found a 9mm Glock handgun with a loaded drum magazine, an additional drum magazine, a small amount of suspected marijuana and $860 in cash.
While speaking with officers, court records state that Cotner said the woman whose apartment he is accused of attempting to break into owed him money, and that he pulled a window screen out with the intention of entering the apartment to “see if she was there.”
