As FOX 56 previously reported, 28-year-old Jarod Barnes of Elizabethtown walked away from the Bluegrass Career and Development Center just before 6:45 p.m. on June 22. Kentucky State Police said he was previously convicted of engaging in organized crime along with trafficking methamphetamine.
Around 11 p.m. on July 2, the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that a tip led to a home in the 500 block of Locust Street regarding Barnes possibly being there.
Court documents claim that New Haven woman Kaitlin Smithson took a while to answer the door. While inside, deputies noted that they found Barnes’ property and the entrance to the attic appeared to be “disturbed.”
