Statistics show decline in crime, statewide and in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – On Tuesday, the Healey-Driscoll administration announced crime statistics in Massachusetts for 2024, showing a decline in crime.

In the report, there’s progress for the state and the city of Springfield. This is a win for Massachusetts, and the data proves that something is being done to keep communities safer.

Local organizations collaborate for summer youth programs in Springfield

Public safety and reducing crime across Massachusetts have been a part of the Healey-Driscoll administration. Last year, more than $45 million was invested in crime prevention initiatives that have now resulted in less crime in communities overall.

According to the state’s preliminary numbers, crimes in Massachusetts have decreased by about four percent compared to 2023. Homicides decreased by about 11 percent, and robberies decreased by about nine percent. While Springfield is known to be a high crime area, so far this year, that hasn’t been the case…
