Marines Deploy to Florida to Assist ICE
Two hundred Marines are being deployed to Florida to support Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations, according to a statement from U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM). This deployment is the latest move in the Trump administration’s effort to increase deportations using active-duty military personnel.
The Marines, from Marine Corps Air Station New River in North Carolina, are part of a larger deployment of 700 troops announced last month. These troops are being sent to Florida, Louisiana, and Texas to provide logistical and administrative support to immigration officials. ICE will determine the specific duties and locations for the Marines in Florida.
This deployment follows earlier deployments of approximately 4,000 National Guard personnel and 700 Marines to California under Title X, a law permitting the use of troops to protect federal property and personnel. Currently, around 100 National Guard members are already assigned to an immigration detention center in Florida, dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz” by President Trump.
According to Florida National Guard spokesperson Capt. Brittianie Funderburk, these personnel are primarily handling security and administrative tasks.
