AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – At Diamond Lakes, speed might be good for a baseball or football, but it’s not good if it’s traffic.“Sometimes I’ve had people go through the parking lot to go around me speeding to beat me,” said Chris Anderson. When it comes to devices to slow drivers at Diamond Lakes, city leaders believe more are better. There are two speed humps in the park now, but commissioners have approved adding three more after hearing from visitors.“Hey people are speeding in here. We need speed humps, we need lights for safety, because a lot of people get up early in the morning and go walking,” said Mayor Pro-Tem Wayne Guilfoyle.Three new speed humps would cost $12,000, but some park goers say spend the money.
“I think so because sometimes people do be driving a little too fast yes,” said Sweetie Hudson. But some feel the two there now are enough, but understand the desire for more.“If everybody drives by the law in a perfect world, you know, we don’t need no speed bumps but the speed bumps are there because people drive excessive speed like this gentleman right here,” said Travis Taylor.“Are more speed humps needed?”
“I really don’t think so. I don’t think those are needed really because I don’t see people speeding through here,” said Jack Wilcher.“When you got dang-gum people doing donuts in the parking lot, that’s wrong and that’s what it’s designed to do, slow them down,” said Guilfoyle.Good hop or bad hop, there will soon be more at Diamond Lakes…
