Two men’s 2024 murders in Knoxville remain unsolved

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — While 2025 is halfway over, investigators are still working to solve the murders of two men who were killed in shootings in Knoxville in 2024.

The two separate shootings are among the list of dozens of unsolved murders that have happened in Knoxville since 1968. Although the two shootings are not believed to be connected, a spokesperson for Knoxville Police said both investigations remain open, active and ongoing.

On October 1, 2024, Knoxville Police officers responded to the scene of a shooting in Northwest Knoxville at a parking lot in the area of Minnesota Avenue and Pascal Drive. There, they found Carlos Cozart Yarbrough, 41, suffering from a gunshot wound. Yarbrough was taken to UT Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

At the time, Knoxville Police shared that investigators believed a group of people were gathered in the parking lot when a shooter “emerged from nearby dumpsters and fired into the crowd.” A department spokesperson said the shooting appeared to be targeted, but there was no evidence to suggest that Yarbrough was the target.
