ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Filling the gaps in a public safety desert, Bernalillo County is celebrating the addition of its first new fire station in two decades on the west side. “It’s not every day as a fire chief that you get to build a station under your watch,” said Bernalillo County Fire Rescue Chief Greg Perez.

After millions of dollars and years of planning, the new fire station—Fire Station 66—at Atrisco Vista, located south of Central, is now operational. The project began in 2019 and is situated near the newer Route 66 Visitor Center, close to the I-40 exit.
