Vacationing Family Makes Grim Discovery in Famed National Park

An Illinois family’s first big vacation was interrupted when they came across human remains in Rocky Mountain National Park. Kristin Chavez and her husband were travelling with their 12-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter, driving 15 hours to see Colorado. The family was near Trail Ridge Road, hiking toward the Alpine Visitor Center, when their son wandered off toward a pile of rocks.

“My son states, ‘I think I found a dead body,'” Chavez said. “We kind of laughed it off … there’s no way.”
