Four defendants appear before federal courts for offenses including arson, assaulting a federal officer and depredation of federal property

PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) – Four defendants made their first appearances in federal court on Monday, June 29th, for charges related to ongoing protest gatherings near a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in South Portland. The individuals involved are facing charges including arson and willful depredation of government property.

  • Trenten Edward Barker, 34, of Portland, has been charged with the felony offenses of arson of federal property and depredation against federal property.
  • Nadya Malinowska, 33, of Portland, has been charged with the misdemeanor offense of failing to obey a lawful order.
  • David Pearl, 35, also of Portland, has been charged with the misdemeanor offenses of failing to obey a lawful order and creating a disturbance.
  • August Dean Gordon, 31, of Beaverton, Oregon, has been charged with the misdemeanor offenses of willful depredation of government property and assaulting a federal officer.

On June 11th, during protests at the ICE office, federal officers observed demonstrators attempting to construct a barricade against the ICE office’s vehicle gate. Protests gathered assorted flammable materials and gathered it against the gate. Federal officers observed Barker, retrieve a flare from his backpack and use it to ignite materials against the vehicle gate. The officers fully extinguished the fire within minutes. Barker was later arrested on June 27, 2025.

According to court documents and information shared in court, on June 29, 2025, several individuals gathered near an ICE office in South Portland where, for weeks, individuals have repeatedly targeted the building and federal law enforcement officers between the dates of June 17th and June 21st.

On June 17th, August Dean Gordon was first observed pulling a proximity card reader from a stanchion located on the ICE facility’s driveway. During his arrest, Gordon kicked and grabbed the officers, injuring five officers as they placed him into custody…
