HONOLULU (Island News) — The Fourth of July holiday is approaching, so the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) is ramping up efforts to keep Oʻahu’s roads safe. So far this year, 40 people have died in traffic-related incidents on the island — a sobering number that’s prompting HPD to act.
Police said the solution starts with individual responsibility behind the wheel.
“I really think it’s an attitude thing,” said Blake Arita, HPD Traffic Division Lieutenant. “We really normalize this type of behavior. Driving with aloha to me, means being conscientious about how your actions on the roadway affect everybody else — and affect the entire community.”
