Driver strikes officer with vehicle, discards gun during pursuit: Allentown police

A 31-year-old man was arrested after allegedly striking a police officer while fleeing a traffic stop in Allentown and later ditching a handgun, according to police.

Allentown police pulled over a driver identified as Dante Copeland about 1:15 p.m. Thursday at North Seventh and West Gordon streets, according to a news release from a department supervisor.

“Shortly after the vehicle stop was initiated, the driver placed the vehicle into gear and accelerated, striking an Allentown police officer at the scene causing injuries to the officer,” Capt. Christopher Diehl wrote in the release…
