Gas leak prompts evacuations in Gustine; Area now deemed safe

GUSTINE, Calif. — A gas main leak that forced the evacuation of several city blocks in Gustine on Friday has been contained, and residents were allowed to return home after a swift response by emergency crews and PG&E.

The leak, located near 2nd Avenue between 5th and 6th streets, prompted road closures and shut down nearby businesses, including WhichCraft Tap Room, Family Dollar, and Saputo’s, which sent workers home as a precaution, said Gustine Police spokesman Eddie Gonzales.
